"Jack and the Beanstalk"
Once upon a time, there was a young boy named Jack who lived with his widowed mother in a small cottage. They were very poor, and their only source of income was their cow, Milky-White. But Milky-White had stopped giving milk, and they were facing starvation.
Jack's mother told him to take Milky-White to the market and sell her for the best price he could get. So, Jack set off, leading the cow. On the way, he met a strange old man who offered him a handful of colorful beans in exchange for Milky-White. The man claimed they were magic beans.
Jack, intrigued, traded the cow for the beans and hurried home, excited to show his mother. But when she saw the beans, she was furious. She scolded Jack for being foolish and threw the beans out the window in disgust.
That night, Jack went to bed hungry and upset. When he woke up the next morning, he was amazed to see a giant beanstalk growing outside his window. It stretched up into the clouds and disappeared from sight. The magic beans had indeed been magic!
Curious and adventurous, Jack decided to climb the beanstalk. He climbed and climbed, higher and higher, until he reached the top. There, he found himself in a strange land, with a magnificent castle in the distance.
Jack walked towards the castle and knocked on the door. A large, stern-looking woman answered. Jack asked for some food and shelter, and despite her initial hesitation, she took pity on him and let him in. She warned him, however, that her husband was a giant, and he would not be pleased to find a human in his home.
She hid Jack in the oven just as the giant returned. The giant stomped into the kitchen, sniffing the air. "Fee-fi-fo-fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman! Be he alive, or be he dead, I'll grind his bones to make my bread!"
